Guide updated · verify track status with Explore Parks WA / DBCA
Milyering Discovery Centre is the main in-park visitor information hub on the coastal corridor. Facilities and hours change — note 2026 refurbishment / temporary facilities context [VERIFY live status]. Use it for orientation, not as a full substitute for downloading official alerts before you leave Exmouth.
- Visitor hub / short interpretive options when open
- 30–90 minutes plus drive
- Short paths around the hub [VERIFY]
- Effort: easy
- Best for: Orientation, information and a heat-aware pause mid-coastal day
Distance, grade, time, open/closed status and conditions change — always verify with Explore Parks WA / DBCA (exploreparks.dbca.wa.gov.au) before you go. Official guidance commonly restricts walks to the cooler months (about April–September) because of extreme summer heat.

Where you start
Milyering Discovery Centre / visitor hub (Yardie Creek Road)
Explore Parks WA lists opening hours Monday–Sunday 9:00 am–3:45 pm, closed Christmas Day (checked 2026-08-08). Confirm live status if travelling near holidays or works periods.
How to get there
- On the main coastal park road from Exmouth — Explore Parks WA places it about 54 km from Exmouth; useful midpoint between northern snorkel nodes and southern Yardie destinations.
- Park only in signed bays. Do not treat the hub car park as overflow camping.
- No fuel or supermarket services — Exmouth remains the logistics base. Park entry fees apply for the coastal park corridor.
- Screenshot alerts and bookings offline even if you plan to stop here for notices. WIFI hotspot is mentioned for Park Stay self-service when reception is poor.
How to do it (step by step)
- Check official notices first thing when you arrive.
- Use shade and toilet facilities when open. Drinking water is not a substitute for bringing your own supply on coastal days.
- Do not assume full retail, mechanical help, or live rescue coordination exists here.
- Reset the day plan: snorkel next, Yardie next, or Exmouth return if heat or conditions demand.
Why stop at Milyering at all
Milyering is logistics and orientation, not the main attraction. Use it to re-check notices, take a heat break and reset the day plan after a snorkel or before Yardie.
Your pre-downloaded alerts and maps still carry the trip if the centre is busy or temporary facilities feel limited. Never treat the hub as a guaranteed rescue desk.
Families often need a structured pause more than another ambition. A calm midpoint prevents the “one more stop” spiral that ends in heat and arguments.
Hours and 2026 refurbishment (verified public sources)
Explore Parks WA (checked 2026-08-08): Monday to Sunday 9:00 am–3:45 pm; closed Christmas Day. Always re-check before travel.
DBCA’s Milyering Discovery Centre refurbishment project: full refurbishment works in 2026; services move to a purpose-built temporary building in the visitor carpark; carparking capacity unchanged; same opening hours and full range of services expected through the upgrade. Construction schedule notes temporary visitor centre from around March 2026 — still confirm on-site.
Do not plan critical water supply solely on hub availability. Self-sufficiency remains the coastal corridor default.
Information strategy before you rely on the hub
Download park PDFs, alerts and booking confirmations in Exmouth reception. Treat Milyering as a midpoint check-in when open, not your only source of truth.
Campsite bookings remain essential and online via Park Stay WA. On-site signs and alerts.dbca.wa.gov.au beat social media screenshots.
Heat, water and official advice come first. If you still need kit after the plan is solid, use the gear hub — Amazon merch is not on this trail page.

Extra tips
- Download park info while still in Exmouth reception.
- Treat Milyering as a logistics check-in, not the whole day plan.
- Hours (public page 2026-08-08): daily 9:00 am–3:45 pm; closed Christmas Day — re-check before travel.
- DBCA refurbishment project: centre stays open via temporary building in the visitor carpark during 2026 works; same hours/services expected — still re-check live notices.
- Useful heat buffer between Turquoise Bay and Yardie on long coastal days.
