Things to do at Cape Range
Last reviewed · verify live conditions with Explore Parks WA / DBCA
Most first visits revolve around Turquoise Bay plus one land highlight — Yardie Creek, Mandu Mandu (cool months) or Charles Knife lookouts. Match the day to heat and ocean confidence — not Instagram density.

Ocean before ego
Cancelled snorkel in bad conditions is still a successful day. Demote to canyons or recovery — do not invent access at Oyster Stacks.
Heat is the land filter
Walks commonly only April–September. Multi-litre water, early starts, and honest turnarounds beat a forced Mandu Mandu in extreme heat.
Fuel & self-sufficiency
No fuel in the park. Camp only with Park Stay bookings. Screenshot alerts while you still have Exmouth reception.
- 1
Turquoise Bay shore snorkel
Easy access · ocean hazards · every first water day
High-volume Ningaloo Coast classic: park, walk to the beach, snorkel when conditions allow. Crowds, currents and sun on the sand matter as much as the postcard water. Buddy system and early parking in peak season.
- 2
Mandu Mandu Walk
Moderate · cool-season · real climb-out
Signature arid limestone gorge loop for fit walkers in cooler months. Steep sections, little shade — heat is the real gatekeeper. Official guidance commonly steers walkers to about April–September.
- 3
Yardie Creek gorge & rim
Easy–moderate · icon scenery · wildlife distance
Limestone gorge drama, short nature walks, rock wallabies at a respectful distance, optional boat tours when operating. Lower commitment than Mandu — still arid UV and cliff-edge honesty.
- 4
Charles Knife & Shothole canyons
Easy · scenic drives · heat demotion
Eastern Exmouth-side canyon drives and lookouts — arid interior colour without coastal park-entry logistics for this commonly fee-exempt pair (verify live). Excellent heat-day demotion.
- 5
Oyster Stacks & Lakeside (conditions)
Tide / condition filters · not automatic upgrades
Named snorkel nodes beyond Turquoise Bay. Oyster Stacks is tide-dependent — a classic place groups get access wrong. Follow official and on-site guidance only; never invent dune shortcuts.
- 6
Wildlife & beaches
Ethics first · seasonal overlays
Kangaroos, emus, echidnas, black-flanked rock wallabies, birds; seasonal humpback whales ~May–Oct and turtles. Keep distance, no feeding, and use public lookouts — not cliff scrambles for photos.
- 7
Milyering Discovery Centre
Orientation · verify hours live
Main in-park visitor hub on the coastal corridor. Hours and facilities change — including 2026 refurbishment / temporary facilities context. Orient here; download alerts in Exmouth first.

Coastal camping (Park Stay WA)
Bookings · self-sufficiency · peak sell-outs
Multiple official campgrounds along the coast — Osprey, Kurrajong cluster, Yardie Creek and more. Book only via Park Stay WA. Self-sufficiency is mandatory: no power, limited/no drinking water.
